Mocean, a subsidiary of mobile ad network Mojiva, will serve display, rich media and video ads with content within apps and on the mobile web, including both live and on-demand video.

“We needed a platform that would enable our multi-channel offering of display, rich media and video,” said Kyoo Kim, vice president of sales and marketing at the MSNBC Digital Network. “We chose Mocean Mobile because they had a very sophisticated core mobile ad platform that addressed our business needs and advertiser demand that could continue to grow as we move forwards at an accelerated rate.”

In March, Rubicon Project picked Mocean to bring its REVV revenue optimization platform for publishers to the mobile realm.

Others do it, but news video has been slow in utilizing the technique. The site’s video player will let you search the transcript of a video to locate a specific passage. You can highlight the text on the transcript and the player will automatically play that portion of the video. Viewers can clip that snippet of video and transfer it elsewhere.

My question is how is this going to bring them money? It’s like tivo. How are you going to sell ads against it? Product placement? (kidding). Obviously online video watching is burgeoning, with 75 percent of users watch online videos, with predictions that it will rise to 88 percent in 2012. Video advertising had a 245 percent increase in the first half of 2008, at $345 million, compared to the first half of 2007.

Users viewed 12.7 billion online videos during November 2008, up more than one-third over November 2007, according to comScore Video Metrix. ComScore said more than 146 million watched an average of 87 videos per viewer in November 2008, 77 percent of US Internet users.

On the high end are niche sites for business leaders from WSJ.com and the Wall Street Journal Digital Network, selling video ads for $90 CPM on their video pre-rolls.

On the other end are video ads on sites that focus on user generated content, with sites like MetaCafe.com asking for $10 CPM – $35 CPM, depending on placement. The rate card for pre-roll and home page sponsored video units is $35. The rate card for overlay ads is $20, and a static companion ad runs from $10 to $20.

MySpace is asking for $25 CPM on their video pre-rolls with a 300×250 pixel ad unit. Web video ads offered are pre-roll, mid-roll, 5 second pre-roll bumpers, banners and display ads.

YouTube requires a minimum of $50,000 spend within 90 days. On brand channels, advertisers must spend $250,000 across Google and YouTube, including $100,000 or more on YouTube only. A YouTube home page roadlock is a $100,000 per day flat fee plus a $100,000 incremental spend on Google and YouTube within 90 days. Companies wanting to advertise on YouTube for less can sign up for Google AdWords for as little as a $1 CPM. YouTube has an ad guide.

This site WebVideoReport has done a study that shows the range of pricing for different sites.
Viral marketing campaigns multiplying

Viral marketing campaigns are multiplying since advertisers are finding alternative ways to reach distracted consumers more and more used to new technologies liked TiVo, DVRs, and iPods. Traditional types of advertising like commercials are perceived as passive and intrusive, and consumers decide to come to video websites, visiting contents when they want, and staying as long or as briefly as they want.

”The Internet has turned people into active seekers, active diggers,” said Philips Electronics North America, which has sponsored viral campaigns like shaveeverywhere.com.

This site and others, like The Harry Situation.com intended to promote Garnier products and developed by Avenue A/Razorfish, have become buzz factor.
Young amateur journalist will post video in the AP’s network

MTV has recruited 51 young amateur journalists, one from each state, to cover the 2008 elections. Their reports will consist of blog entries, videos, photos, audio podcasts, and animation, and will appear on Think.MTV.com . Also, their video will be posted on the 1,800+ sites in the AP’s Online Video Network.

The MTV “Stream Team” will be geared up with laptops, video cameras and mobile phones. MTV is already working with MySpace/News Corp. on a series of televised and webcast dialogues with presidential candidates.
iPhone version is another way to navigate

CBNews is the latest site to add a specially designed version for the iPhone, the trendy gadget of the year. This iPhone version is better to navigate than the regular versions. Facebook, Google & others have already fired up customized version.
MSNBC.com launches new video player

MSNBC.com has unleashed a new video player, which uses Flash (hey, Microsoft, what happened with Silverlight?). The player screen is roomy, measuring 600 pixels wide. While a clip is playing, related links display along the bottom of the player. Amazingly, embeddable video clips and search are not still available. In terms of advertising, it appears the new player is following the same approach as MSN Video, which is one pre-roll for every three minutes of use.
A widget to watch live television

LabPixies has developed a cool widget that allows you to watch an array of TV stations on your home page. LabPixies TV has hundreds of TV stations, many submitted by users. To use it, simply browse through the TV stations selection and click any you want.

NBC’s “Today” show website has been given a makeover that includes a behind-the-scenes look and an additional hour added to the three-hour show, Reuters reports.
Launched on Monday, the TodayShow.com website contains a video blog from co-host Al Roker and other content from “Today” contributors and iVillage content. Through a sister website, users can also receive an all-day web presence from the cast of the “Today” show, extending over the traditional three hours.

“Today” executive producer Jim Bell said in a statement to Reuters, “There’s a connective tissue with personalities and the broadcast. We’re using this technology to give additional information about a news story we did, a recipe that was on the show, or peeling back the curtain and taking a look inside the show behind the scenes.”

Although a part of MSNBC for over ten years, the “Today” show will receive its own spotlight via the portal, which is a first for MSNBC.com according to Randy Sterns, deputy editor of MSNBC.com.

Bell added, “We want to be with (viewers) throughout the day and continue that connection that starts in the morning and not just say at 10 o’clock, ‘See you at 7 a.m. the next morning.”

There is also a possibility for other properties to move online, including “NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams,” “Meet the Press” and “Dateline NBC”, Stearns noted.

Online news provider MSNBC.com and interactive mobile media provider SmartVideo Technologies Inc. will roll out a new mobile service that will give users access to both news headlines and news video clips from NBC on their Internet-enabled mobile devices.

The service will be free for MSNBC.com users, and use SmartVideo’s video delivery system, which includes support for ad insertion, dynamic ad serving, and pre-roll and post-roll ads.

“MSNBC.com is increasingly looking at ways to offer its high quality video content to mobile users for free using an ad-supported model,” said Kyoo Kim, MSNBC.com’s sales VP in a statement. “As we did with online video streaming, we are excited to pave the way for ad-supported mobile video advertising as we have seen much interest from our conversations with marketers across the country.” According to SmartVideo president David Ross, SmartVideo believes the partnership with MSNBC.com will become an industry standard for delivering media content to the mobile platform.

The beta version of the MSNBC.com mobile service is available on the MSNBC website, and the necessary client can be downloaded directly to a user’s phone. The service will officially launch in November.
