Yahoo, MerchantCircle Pen Local Marketing Deal

ADOTAS – MerchantCircle, an online network of small businesses, has inked a new partnership with Yahoo. Through the deal, MerchantCircle members (numbering about 525,000) will get exclusive access to Yahoo Local online marketing services. MerchantCircle will then promote the services to its affiliate businesses.

MerchantCircle was launched in 2005, but it really started taking off late last year when it started focusing on online advertising products. Local advertisers can tap into the company’s search engine marketing and Web development services.

MerchantCircle, an online network that provides advertising tools to enable local businesses to market themselves on the Local Internet, has entered into a partnership with Quigo.

Quigo provides performance-based advertising solutions to websites and advertisers, and has an AdSonar network that includes premium-branded national websites like eDiets, Fox News, Lonely Planet, and Martha Stewart. AdSonar has content-targeted links distributed on more than 100 local, regional, and national newspaper, TV, and radio sites.

Through the partnership, MerchantCircle member merchants can advertise on local content pages within AdSonar. Ben T. Smith, chairman and co-founder of MerchantCircle, believes that the new advertising opportunities offered by the partnership will help drive local traffic and sales to participating businesses beyond major search engine capabilities.

Henry Vogel, Chief Revenue Officer for Quigo, says that merchants will be able to do so because “MerchantCircle advertisers can now target by many topics or choose placements in content sections that are most relevant to their local products and services.”

He adds, “A great many of our distribution partners are local media brands that attract loyal visitors from their immediate geographic trade areas. This presents a highly efficient way for MerchantCircle’s merchants to create an enhanced presence in their local markets, or try attracting customers from elsewhere around the nation.”

MerchantCircle Connects Local Advertisers to Local Businesses

Online local business network MerchantCircle has launched publicly today. The MerchantCircle local business network helps businesses connect to their local community and reach local internet users through marketing channels like blogs, email, advertising, coupons, and SEO. It’s hit the 5,000 merchant mark, a tally that’s been steadily doubling every 4-6 weeks, and contains more than 14 million listings and aggregates more than 10 million RSS feeds full of local business and marketing information.

“During the past few months, more than 5,000 local businesses joined the network and began actively using the site, taking advantage of the tools and advertising opportunities available there,” said MerchantCircle co-founder Ben Smith in a statement. “This phenomenal initial response is proof that local businesses want, need and are ready to successfully use the Local Internet to promote their businesses and drive revenue.”

The Circle has a free service for small businesses that includes an ad on their local merchant network, coupon creation, business blogging, and email newsletters. Their premium services include SEO, Google and Yahoo ads, targeted ad campaigns, and one-on-one time with an ad campaign advisor.
