Consumers around the world think that advertising is changing for the better and that advertisers are doing a better job of reaching them but they have some issues and concerns with online advertising, in particular.
Kantar Media’s global Dimension survey included responses from more than 5,000 “connected” adult consumers.
Here are some of the findings:
* 68 percent of connected adults either tolerate or even like advertising
* 36 percent feel that advertising is changing for the better
* 20 percent of connected adults always use an ad blocker
* 47 percent of those using ad blockers say they have issues with aspects of online advertising as opposed to ads themselves
Consumers feel differently about mobile advertising because it is so personal, which is a double-edge sword. They like relevance but perceive such targeting as an invasion of privacy. If mobile ad messaging is relevant and in the receiver’s best interests, then privacy concerns may recede; 35 percent of respondents said they would be prepared to provide more data ito brands n return for more relevant ads.
As with mobile, consumers appreciate relevance but think advertisers could make better use of the data they have to stop sending them the same ads over and over again, long after they are not relevant. Consideration needs to be given to the subtle business of matching creative with context.
