Even though Black Friday spending was down 11%, mobile spending was higher than ever. Data collected over the weekend by Bizrate Insights, a division of Connexity (formerly Shopzilla), from nearly 5 million shoppers, finds that online purchases made on a mobile phone nearly doubled this Thanksgiving weekend versus last year’s Thanksgiving Weekend.

This increase in purchases via a mobile phone speaks not only to consumer demand, but also retailers’ ability to successfully meet consumers where and how they want to shop.

·       Consumers purchasing via a mobile device grew 83-124% YOY (This is hand-held only, excluding Tablets).

·       Purchases on a tablet were flat to down YOY for the same time period.

·       However purchasing via a tablet still holds a bigger piece of the online pie than does mobile – with tablet roughly double that of hand-held mobile.

“Online purchases made on a mobile phone have nearly doubled this Thanksgiving weekend versus last year’s Thanksgiving Weekend,” says Hayley A. Silver, Vice President of Bizrate Insights, a division of Connexity, Inc. “This increase in purchases via a mobile phone speaks not only to consumer demand, but also retailers’ ability to successfully meet consumers where and how they want to shop.”
