Earlier this week, Hearst Corporation announced that Gregory Dorn, MD, MPH has been named president of Hearst Health, the healthcare division within Hearst Business Media. The appointment was announced by Steven R. Swartz, president and CEO of Hearst Corporation, and Richard P. Malloch, president, Hearst Business Media, and is effective immediately.
As president of Hearst Health, Dorn oversees FDB (First Databank), Zynx Health and MCG (formerly Milliman Care Guidelines), as well as Hearst Health’s international business. He also serves as a director to Hearst Health’s Homecare Homebase, as well as the unit’s venture fund and innovation lab. Dorn continues to serve as an executive vice president and deputy group head of Hearst Business Media, which manages Hearst Health and has significant holdings in finance, automotive and electronic business information companies.
“We have a vital need in our country to bring the cost of healthcare to a sustainable level while delivering greater value in care services and our Hearst Health solutions help improve care across the healthcare spectrum, through clinically rigorous guidance delivered by intuitive and scalable technology,” Malloch said. “Greg, a business leader who also has clinical training, is helping us raise the standard of excellence in patient care and make it more efficient. He has a proven track record of success growing Zynx Health and, more recently, managing our largest healthcare business, FDB. We are pleased to recognize Greg’s leadership of Hearst Health.”
Collectively, care guidance from the Hearst Health network reaches 76 percent of discharged patients, 133 million insured individuals, 30 million home health visits, 1.88 billion retail pharmacy prescriptions and 3.26 billion prescription claims every year in the U.S. Whether a patient is receiving care at home, in a clinic, recovery facility, or hospital—or transitioning between venues—Hearst Health helps guide clinical activity for optimal care. Care guidance from Hearst Health brings together practice-proven content and innovative technology, highly organized and intelligently formatted in the context of each user’s workflow.
In 2013, Dorn was appointed deputy group head and executive vice president of Hearst Business Media. He has held a variety of leadership positions across Hearst’s healthcare businesses, including president of FDB from 2010 to 2014 and executive vice president of Zynx Health from 2004 to 2010. His expertise is in developing and commercializing inventive and pioneering solutions that improve care quality and efficiency.
“What excites me about Hearst Health is that we are putting vital information into the hands of people who can truly impact a patient’s health outcome and care experience,” Dorn said. “Hearst is a unique environment that fosters innovation, and gives us the ability to provide care guidance that is transformative.”
Dorn received his medical doctorate from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and his bachelor’s degree from the Columbia University School of Engineering. He performed his clinical training at UCLA, where he also obtained his master’s degree in health services management.
