SAN FRANCISCO, January 23, 2014 (ADOTAS) — AdRoll, the most widely adopted retargeting platform, today announced the acquisition of userfox, a Y Combinator-backed startup offering user retention-as-a-service for brand of all sizes. This is AdRoll’s second acquisition, following the company’s purchase of data analytics startup Bitdeli in June 2013.
Founded in 2012 by Peter Clark and Cesar Alaniz, San Francisco-based userfox’s email retention service sends over two million emails per month for thousands of customers. The company was created to tackle challenges faced by the company’s founders while operating Vimessa, a video voicemail application that allows customers to send high-definition video messages to mobile numbers and email addresses. The founders pivoted their business into userfox in November 2012 and launched retention-driven email, newsletter management and A/B testing products in 2013.
Complementary to AdRoll’s goal to help marketers “collect, analyze and act,” on their data, the userfox integration will enable advertisers on AdRoll’s platform to gather and execute on valuable customer data from a variety of sources, including CRMs, email lists, and mobile IDs. As a result of this acquisition, Peter Clark will lead AdRoll’s product efforts to integrate new data sources and partner with email providers.
