Early Holiday Shopping Stats: Online Sales Up 18%, but Social Falls Flat


ADOTAS — The first recap of 2013 holiday e-commerce sales data from the Custora E-Commerce Pulse has been released.

The Pulse updates daily and aggregates data from over 100 retailers, $10 billion in transaction data and 30 million shoppers.

Highlights of the shopping season so far:

  • Holiday shopping is off to a strong start online, with sales up 18% vs last year.
  • Mobile is growing fast, with almost a third of all online purchases now made on phones or tablets.
  • Apple continues to dominate e-commerce, but Android is gaining share.
  • Social Commerce isn’t happening (yet): Facebook and Twitter have generated almost 0 purchases this season.
