The Weather Company (Weather) today announced the appointment of Peter Kuipers (pictured) as chief financial officer (CFO) effective May 6, 2013. Kuipers joins the company from Yahoo! Inc., where he serves as vice president of finance for the Americas Region. He will report to Chris Walters, chief operating officer of Weather, who announced the appointment As CFO, Kuipers will assume a global role for Weather, partnering with all divisions to align the company’s finance and business strategies; develop plans and budgets; evaluate and monitor investment priorities; and execute on an aggressive growth strategy including global expansion, digital transformation and monetization. He will oversee functions including financial planning and analysis (FP&A), accounting, tax, treasury and facilities. In his most recent role as vice president of finance for Yahoo!’s Americas region, Kuipers led teams responsible for FP&A, operations finance, partnership finance, controllership, accounting, reporting and finance operations for the region across multiple product lines and channels. At Yahoo! Kuipers previously served as vice president of finance, global products division, and as vice president of finance, international regions. Kuipers also served as a member of the board of directors for the majority of Yahoo!’s international companies.
Digitas has announced the promotion of Barbara Goose and Douglas Ryan, formally Executive and Managing Directors, to President of Boston/Detroit and President of Chicago/San Francisco respectively. Both regions have recently herald in large brand client wins. Digitas Boston was recently named Lenovo’s North American AOR for media planning, buying and analytics responsibilities, while Digitas Chicago was recently awarded Kao USA’s digital-creative for an assortment of Kao brands.
[x+1], a digital marketing and data management software provider, and Velti, a global provider of mobile marketing and advertising technology, have forged a partnership that will bring Velti’s mGage platform to the [x+1] Origin data management platform (DMP). As a result, [x+1] clients can use mobile messaging as an outbound marketing and call-to-action channel that takes full advantage of the data and audiences they manage within [x+1] Origin.
Loyalty and engagement platform PunchTab has released a free Android SDK that will allow Android developers to attract and retain more users by adding customized loyalty and reward programs to any mobile application. According to a press release, while many mobile game developers already use game mechanics such as points to reward user activity, most other app developers have been slow to apply this approach — there simply hasn’t been a turnkey way for them to do it. Now, developers who want to increase app usage and engagement can now use PunchTab technology to incentivize desired actions, such as sharing the app, using the app on a regular basis, or hitting certain levels in the app. Users who complete these actions can be rewarded with points that are redeemable for a number of different virtual, social, and real-world rewards.
