Here’s the latest news from the Facebook universe:
- The world’s most popular social web site apparently now has 1 billion users worldwide.
- Extending the strategy it began to employ for Facebook Pages earlier this year, indivudual users now have the opportunity to “promote” (read: “pay for”) status updates to ensure wider reach.
- In a press conference at IAB MIXX earlier this week, COO Sheryl Sandberg said past privacy issues shouldn’t hinder the success of Facebook Gifts. Critics had argues that users might be reluctant to give Facebook their credit card numbers, but Sandberg noted that millions of Facebook gamers are already doing so. She added that in terms of privacy practices for advertisers, “we feel we are the market leader by far in the online space.”
