Chainsaw Psycho Gets Engine Help From Latest Victim

CHICAGO (October 31, 2012)Gold Eagle® Co. (“Gold Eagle”), an industry pioneer of engine maintenance fluids and fuel additives and maker of STA-BIL®, HEET®, Start Your Engines!® and 303® Products, has introduced a new national television and online video ad campaign entitled Chainsaw Psycho to promote its brand of fuel-system revitalizers, Start Your Engines!. Just in time for Halloween,  the commercial takes a comical approach, spoofing the 1974 cult  classic  movie featuring a chainsaw massacre. The spot demonstrates that  when  the frustration of hard-starting equipment gets you mad enough to  kill  someone, Start Your Engines! is the easiest way to get it running again.

To create the spot, Gold Eagle partnered with Poptent,   the global leader in crowdsourced video production, connecting brands  with a social network of more than 50,000 independent filmmakers worldwide. The ad was created by Poptent community member, Matthew Ninaber, and his team at High-Rise Studio, based in Kitchener, Ontario.  In developing the ad’s concept, Ninaber and team aimed to “convey the   idea of a ticking time-bomb” and the “need to get a motor started ASAP.”

The Halloween-themed  spot features a scenario in which a chainsaw killer is about to take his next victim but finds himself in a bind when he can’t get his chainsaw to start. Rather than running for his life, the victim comically gives advice for small engine troubleshooting before offering the killer a bottle of Start Your Engines!. The spot concludes with  the  victim explaining that Start Your Engines! is the easiest way to revive gas and get engines started fast, and the chainsaw successfully re-starts.

“We wanted to do something entirely different with this TV spot to illustrate how Start Your Engines! works and overemphasize its immediate solution to those untimely life moments when your small-engine equipment malfunctions,” said Kevin O’Shea, Brand Manager at Gold Eagle Co. “This TV spot also marks an exciting new direction for Gold Eagle’s  marketing approach.”

The  commercial is running on YouTube and airing on national television throughout the month of October on HGTV shows, including Property Brothers, House Hunters International and Yard Crashers, and the DIY network on shows such as Yardcore, House Crashers and The Vanilla Ice Project.<
