Infographic: Who Is the “Connected Consumer?”

ADOTAS – Rich media mobile and social merchandising and analytics provider Zmags recently conducted a study on the habits of online and mobile shoppers, looking into what devices people were using to shop, how they’re using Facebook to shop, and what kinds of items they’re buying on which devices. The study turned up some results that defy some stereotypes or expectations: The “Connected Consumer,” active in social media and owning multiple internet-connected devices, demographically speaking looks more like a 40-something woman than like a person in his or her 20s. And in spite of the attention businesses have given to creating branded apps, only 4 percent of respondents said they prefer mobile shopping apps, while 87 said they still prefer browser-based shopping using a PC or a laptop. Other findings confirm trends getting a lot of mileage in discussion lately — 87 percent of tablet owners said they’d used their tablets for holiday-related shopping in 2011, and 34 percent of tablet owners are shopping via Facebook. Also, the study suggests consumers are starting to show preferences for what kind of purchases they make on what kinds of devices — electronics, clothes and toys sell particularly well on tablets. You can download the full report here and check out the infographic on the Zmags blog or below (click to enlarge).
