Quick Hits: Mashable Awards, Pre-Order the Android 4.0 Smartphone, More

Mashable has announced the nominees for this year’s Mashable Awards, and voting is open now for the year’s best smartphone, mobile game, new gadget and mobile app, and also most innovative mobile app. If you want to vote, do so by Dec. 16.

Twitter and the Japanese social network Mixi may be partnering — that’s the word following the two companies’ announcement of a joint press conference next week. Twitter’s enormously popular in Japan, and Mixi already has a Twitter-ish feature, Mixi-voice, which could be replaced by the real thing if Twitter were integrated into Mixi.

The first smartphone to feature Android “Ice Cream Sandwich” 4.0, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, is on the market now, as a pre-order. It’s got a $749 price tag at the moment, but if you’re willing to wait a couple weeks, Verizon has promised to release a cheaper version soon. (Just a few days ago, Adotas ran InMobi global research and marketing VP James Lamberti’s observations on how, with Ice Cream Sandwich, Android is currently positioned in the market at pretty much the same place Microsoft was in the early ’90s; check it out for some perspective…)
