Caught With Their Pants Down

ADOTAS – It is being reported that many major brands have been buying online ad space on soft-core porn sites. Apparently, according to an article in AdNews, Google has been offering free trial advertising on these sites. Others ads that have appeared on these sites include GE money ads and ANZ business credit cards. These players join a club that already consists of Sony, Coles and Westpac, who have been seen on the sites potentially, as the article continues, as a tactic to save money on cheap online inventory through non-premium websites.

It seems as though many of the brands are outraged and are either pulling their ads upon finding them on these pornographic sites, or stating they are investigating the issue. However, Google and CEO of the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB), Paul Fisher, both state in the article that the brands themselves are responsible for opting out of certain sites and given the opportunity. Saving a little money can cost you some big embarrassments.

Reader Comments.

Advertiser transparency is the key and like with anything else. you get what you pay for. For certain brands, soft porn may be OK, but for family oriented brands, the negative impact to the brand can be costly, far outweighing potential savings.
