ADOTAS – Apparently Google hasn’t sated its appetite for acquisitions — despite buying 48 companies last year, the G-monster wants to keep gobbling up startups. First down the gullet? UK price comparison site BeatThatQuot.com for 37.7 millions pounds sterling (about $61 million).
Longstanding Mobile Marketing Association member Millennial Media has upped its status to Premium Member to assume a leadership role in developing the MMA’s Mobile Marketing Guide, employing in-depth industry research. The mobile ad network notes that it has released 40 mobile advertising research reports during the last four-and-a-half years.
Local review and search network Yelp has has enlisted Telmetrics to measure the volume of calls driven to Yelp-listed businesses. Yelp currently boasts 45 million monthly visitors and 16 million monthly reviews.
American Media — the publisher of Shape, The National Enquirer and Men’s Fitness among other famous glossies — has selected Operative’s Operative.One online ad management platform for selling cross-channel digital inventory.
Frank Suljic has jumped into the role of executive vice president of sales cross-channel marketing software-maker Visual IQ. Most recently Suljic was vice president of sales at SeeSaw Networks, but has also spent time at Siebel Systems, Oracle and eLoyalty during his 20-year career.
Leaving his spot as vice president of network strategy at Glam Media, former SheKnows.com CEO and President Mike Meyers has formed 365 Plus Media, which will offer female-targeted social marketing opportunities through owned and operated sites such as EndlessBeauty.com and HolidaysCentral.com. Endless Beauty Media founders Julie Springer and Chris Shonk will serve as COO and CFO, respectively.
Local online advertising specialist Yodle has launched a display solution that incorporates contextual targeting, re-targeting and placement optimization based on leads.
Microsoft is partnering with Rovio to offer a limited-time only Bing search integration in mobile gaming phenom Angry Birds that will offer hundreds of clues for obsessive game players. Microsoft has also created a series of videos in which the villainous pigs use Bing resources to assist in stealing the angry birds’ eggs (making them even angrier). This is very appropriate because Bing can only be used to commit evil acts.
