Majority of Social Media Revenue for 2011 Will Be Facebook’s

money_small.jpgADOTAS - eMarketer estimates worldwide social media ad revenue will reach $6 billion in 2011 ($3.1 billion in the U.S. alone), and guess who is going to bring home 68% (71% in the U.S.) of that?

If you said Facebook, you get a gold star! The social network will bring in $4 billion globally in 2011, $2.2 billion in the U.S.

Twitter is expected to bring in global revenue of $150 million in 2011, which is less than LinkedIn made during the first nine months of 2010 according to its S1 filing. eMarketer believes Twitter’s revenue will jump to $250 million in 2012, finally surpassing MySpace ($184 million in 2011, $156 million in 2012).

Advertising in social games is predicted to hit $274 million in 2011 and $417 million in 2012, which pales in comparison to estimates of virtual good revenue — early predictions suggest more than $2 billion in 2011.
