money_tree_small.jpgADOTAS – Just as Verizon Wireless called it the preferred provider of smartphone push notifications for apps developed on its network, mobile apps infrastructure builder Urban Airship exited a Series B round of funding led by the Foundry Group with participation from existing investors True Ventures and Founders Co-op.

The firm, which specializes in push notifications and in-app purchasing integrations for mobile publishers, left with $5.4 million, adding to a $1.1 million round from February.

Urban Airship has doubled its client base to 4,000 this year and plans to double its staff as well by the end of the year. The company claims to have delivered more than a billion mobile messages to 45 million devices across the iOS, Android and BlackBerry platforms.
