ADOTAS – Location-based mobile social networks such as Gowalla, Foursquare and Loopt have arguably turned consumerism into a game that’s fun for the whole family — long as they have cash. It’s a scavenger hunt for discounts — and Loopt Star, the rewards app of Loopt social mapping mobile apps, has created a discount detector for users.
The new Rewards Nearby feature will show up on bargain hunters’ “Check In” tab and display deals up to 20 miles away. Brands will be able to control how close a user needs to be in order to see the offer.
Steve Madden is the latest brand to add a deal on Loopt Star, offering a 20% discount on consumers who check in and make a purchase larger than $50. Other brands with campaigns on Loopt Star include Gap and Paul Frank.
