ADOTAS – Venture capitalists have got a fever for audience data, and the only cure is to fund the data sellers. eXelate, which provides an open marketplace for audience targeting data as well as data management tools for publishers, brought home $15 million in a Series B round of funding led by Menlo Ventures, noted for its investments in DataXu, Invidi, YuMe and others in the interactive ad space.
Also participating was Carmel Ventures, which led eXelate’s Series A round of funding. The company’s total funding stands at $19 million. Menlo Ventures Partner Mark Siegel and Carmel Ventures General Partner and co-founder Shlomo Dovrat will join eXelate’s advisory board, which includes recent additions Matt Freeman, CEO of IPG’s Mediabrands Ventures, and Martin Nisenholtz, New York Times Company’s senior vice president of digital operations.
eXelate is planning to use the funds for expanding its data marketplace and the functionality of its publisher toolset.
