Brandenberg Is New Top Player at Meteor

gamer11.jpgADOTAS – A challenger appears in the social gaming universe: Zac Brandenberg, former Hydra CEO and occasional Adotas contributor, has been named CEO of Meteor Games, the maker of Facebook sensation Island Paradise.

Former CEO Adam Powell, who coufounded Meteor in 2007, is shifting over to the newly created position of chief creative officer, in which he will develop new addictive time-wasters and expand Meteor’s network of gamers.

Island Paradise, which sounds far better than Tropical-IslandVille, is a crop- and critter-raising game that boasts 2.5 million active monthly users on Facebook. Back in 1999 Powell and Deborah Williams launched Neopets, kinda like an online Tamagotchi (am I dating myself?) but with a bigger playground than a plastic egg. In 2005 Viacom purchased Neopets for $160 million.

Brandenberg, who also serves on Meteor’s board and has invested in the company, founded performance marketing network Hydra in 2003. After a thorough makeover involving a good deal of cleaning house, the company merged with AdKnowledge in June.
