Thwapr Adds HipHop to Video SMS
ADOTAS – It’s funny the useless things you remember sometimes — I couldn’t tell you the quadratic equation anymore, but I can recite the theme song to “Fresh Prince of Bel Air” on command. I’m so proud.
So a press release rolls into inbox proclaiming that “legendary” hiphop/punk act The Lordz of Brooklyn are the first musical act to use mobile video service Thwapr’s Share to Phone SMS technology to market their new video, “The Brooklyn Way.”
Lordz of Brooklyn, I thought. Why does that name sound so familiar? In the back of my mind I heard adolescent, nasal laughter… I’m 17, up way too late watching MTV instead of studying and a Lordz of Brooklyn video appears on “Beavis & Butthead.” That show was actually quite the music marketing platform — White Zombie and its frontman Rob Zombie can thank the animated 14-year-old losers for all their fame.
Even though word is “B&B” is reportedly making a comeback, the Lordz — founded in 1992 and still rolling strong — are reaching out to new marketing channels. With Thwapr’s Share to Phone, you can send “The Brooklyn Way” (featuring Everlast) to any mobile number via an SMS link. No download is required — users simply stream from Thwapr’s site.
Thwapr is also running mobile SMS campaigns for the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Tour, in which fans can text “MAYHEM” to a short code or sign up on a website to receive SMS links to video updates.
Reader Comments.
Gavin you are funny I enjoyed your post. I use Thwapr myself and I like it. I told my Dad about it and now he is using it to advertise and update his clients with stuff. Thought I’d let you know.
