Mobile App Recommendations in a Flurry
ADOTAS – Making a mobile app is no biggie anymore — now even your grandmother could make her own app with Google’s drag’n'drop App Inventor. Getting your app noticed — especially in the chaos known as the App Store — that requires a little extra something-something….
Possibly something-something like Flurry’s AppCircle, an app promoter and monetizer that has just been publicly launched for App Store applications.
Through an intelligent recommendation engine, the self-service platform — built atop of Flurry Analytics, which is employed by 45,000 applications on the iPhone, Android, BlackBerry and J2ME platforms — recommends other apps to those using Flurry network apps. Since the mobile app analytics firm launched the beta version of AppCircle, 450 companies have used it to promote and monetize applications regardless of App Store ranking.
On the publishing side, developers can use AppCircle to target application recommendations through menu and settings page add-ons or served banners, earning 60% of what promoters pay. In addition, developers can incenitivize downloads via their own virtual currencies.
But the best deal is actually a hybrid: developers who sign up as both promoters and publishers receive a 25% credit on every earned dollar that goes back into promoting their applications.
“Discovery and monetization are the top two concerns among our 30,000 customers,” said President and Chief Executive Officer Simon Khalaf. “AppCircle effectively addresses both of these problems. AppCircle charges for acquired customers not clicks, and app publishers further monetize their audience in a way that compliments any business model.”
