ADOTAS – The SXSW music and technology festival has come to a close and this year, the attendance records were broken with 13,022 registered industry pros. The festival has been fairly steady despite the recession. SXSW’s creative director Brent Grulke said “Although the music industry has changed, music itself and those who pursue it remains as healthy as ever.
And though the festival includes an extremely popular film branch, it has been a prevalent place for cutting-edge, next-best-thing technology unveilings. Afterall, Twitter launched there in Austin in 2008.
This year, locator services like Gowalla and Foursquare were getting the buzz. They use global positioning software in smart phones to help users find friends, businesses and social events, according to a report in Reuters.
