ADOTAS – For retailers and restaurants, one of the greatest promises of advertising in the mobile space is the ability to attract clientele by offering discounts to consumers based on location. Similar to offerings by FourSquare, location-based mobile social networker Loopt now targets coupons and discounts to users from merchants in their vicinity.
Powered by Mobile Spinach, a free mobile membership community that offers exclusive deals from local merchants, Loopt’s more than 3 million unique users not only receive offers but also directions and contact details. Offers can then be redeemed by showing a merchant the deal on the mobile screen or via SMS or email.
While right now the coupons are available for San Fransisco merchants and users, Loopt will be expanding services to Los Angeles and New York City in the coming months.
