Local Online Spend to Increase in Share

line_graph_smallADOTAS – In “U.S. Local Media Annual Forecast: 2009-2014,” BIA/Kelsey expects spending on local online and interactive media to increase nearly 20% — from $15.2 billion to $36.7 billion — over the next five years, while traditional media local spend dives from $115 billion to $108.2 billion.

The report predicts that in 2014 online advertising will account for 25% of the $144.9 billion in local spend. In addition, the company believes the business models for local online spending will increasingly shift from CPM to performance models.

After the recent U.S. Supreme Court removing bans on corporate spending in elections, BIA/Kelsey predicts a rise in political spending in local traditional media such as TV and radio as well as an increase in online local spend.
