Regional Networks Vanish With Facebook Privacy Update

facebook_small.jpgADOTAS – At 350 million users, Facebook has a larger population than the United States. Addressing this growth and the challenges it presents for user privacy, Facebook has updated its privacy policy and is terminating regional networks

The current privacy model is centered around these networks, and founder Mark Zuckerberg explains in a letter on the Facebook blog that the site’s phenomenal growth has overcrowded some regions and limited their effectiveness in maintaining privacy.

The dissolution of regional networks will bring less complex privacy controls to users. The privacy page will be simpler with several options combined and Facebook will allow users to control who has access to every bit of user-created or uploaded content.

In the next few weeks, Facebook will prod users to review and update their privacy settings.

“We’ve worked hard to build controls that we think will be better for you, but we also understand that everyone’s needs are different,” Zuckerberg writes.
