Quick Hits: King of Pop Lives — in Search

punch_small.jpgADOTAS – The king of pop is dead, but he was certainly alive on search engine. For 2009, “Michael Jackson” was the most searched term on Bing and Yahoo! and the second most searched term on Google. “Twitter” claimed the top spot on Google’s list and the second on Bing’s, but appeared nowhere on Yahoo!’s top 10. Apparently the tweens love their Yahoo! — “The Twilight Saga” was the engine’s second most searched term.

– Mouses were smoking this past Cyber Monday. comScore recorded $887 billion in online spending on the online equivalent to Black Friday, a 5% increase over the year before. Even hotter, that total matched Dec. 9, 2008, the heaviest online spending day so far on the record. Click away, shoppers, click away!

– Location, location, location — it’s not just for real estate anymore. Digital media consulting firm BIA/Kelsey estimates spending on geo-targeted display ads will increase from $897 million in 2008 to $1.9 billion in 2013. While they currently make up 10.2% of display ad units, the firm estimates they will hold a 15% share in 2013.
