Mapping Mouse Hot Spots

mouseclick1.jpgADOTAS – Like most apartment dwellers in New York, I have issues with mice. In a handy and nauseating twist, I’m able to track which parts of my abode they prefer thanks to their poor bowel control. Little black turds on my stove top inform me I need to clean up better after cooking.

Fortunately, ClickTale has created a far less disgusting method of tracking mouse movements — not just clicks — on a website. The Mouse Move Heatmap will allow publishers to see where mice roam at a more affordable price than eye-tracking studies.

ClickTale’s heat maps give a thermal-like map of the hottest spots of your website (bright red) for users to roll across. The process allows for user anonymity as the tool aggregates data from hundreds of viewers.

As research suggests an 84% to 88% correlation between mouse and eye movements, this is quite handy information and far cheaper than eye-tracking alternatives. Oh, and from personal experience I can tell you it’s far more pleasant to analyze than mouse poop.

Reader Comments.

Thanks for the info, I have been looking for a web analytics tool – clicktale looks like it has all i need. i will give it a go.
