Fwix Expands Local News Monetization Into Video
ADOTAS – I felt my shoulders slump when I read in November that The Washington Post was closing its remaining U.S. bureaus in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York. WaPo is my hometown paper and I once dreamed of being a staff reporter, but I recognize that as the old print journalism model crumbles with the lightning fast pace (and no-cost) of news on the Internet, bureaus of magnet newspapers are headed the way of the dinosaur.
Local outlets — blogs, community newspapers, what have you — are where to get local news as content becomes ever-more localized — for better or worse (I can hear the ghosts of journalists past moaning). Fwix recently introduced a content monetizing solution for local news, which aggregates articles based on a user’s IP address and inserts relevant local text ads. Now the company brings a similar feature to video.
The AdWire Video widget hunts down, distributes and monetizes local news video content — fair use, of course — for publishers. Sites that add video, with pertinent local ads included, will split revenue gains with Fwix and the content creators.
“The local advertising industry has been trying to find its footing, as has the fractured local news and blog landscape itself,” said Darian Shirazi, CEO of Fwix. “Our vision is to redefine both local news — through our real-time newswire — as well as its monetization model.”

Check your facts on fwix. It is not “fair use” and several bloggers have asked them to take their feed off fwix and gotten no response. Not sure where this is going, but you cannot at this time call it fair use.
