B2B Is All A-Twitter

twitter_smallADOTAS – As trade shows and trade pubs lose their luster in the era of Web 2.0, B2B companies are quickly discovering the opportunities available in social media — sometimes faster than their B2C peers.

The Business.com 2009 Business Social Media Benchmarking Study found that 81% of B2B respondents maintain company accounts or profiles on social media sites, compared to 67% of B2C. In addition, 75% of B2B companies use microblogging sites such as Twitter, 74% maintain company blogs and 73% participate in discussions on third-party sites; all of these figures were at least 15% higher than B2C firms.

Twitter appears to be the asset of choice for B2B companies as 73% of companies surveyed had accounts vs. 45% of B2C. Another 56% were involved with LinkedIn Companies and 53% in LinkedIn Groups. B2C companies did register a higher margin of Facebook profiles with 83%, just beating B2C’s 77%.
