punch_small.jpgADOTAS – When people need their scores, they go to the net: Burst Media’s recent study of 2,200 adults showed that fans were most likely to scour the Internet for sports news, as 36.1% of men and 32.7% of women cited it as their primary source. Local TV was next with 23.7% of respondents turning on the tube first, while local and national newspapers trailed badly with 6.7% and 3.6%, respectively. Sports radio finished last place as the primary news source for only 2.9% of participants.

– It’s a familiar marketing ploy — give out a free sample so they come in and buy the product. Apple has been ranking the highest grossing apps since the introduction of in-app purchasing at the iTunes App store, and Distimo offers a report: games, social media apps and book apps are best converting users to the paid version. Seven of the top grossing apps with in-app purchasing are games, followed by six social media apps and four book apps. Music, news and finance apps with in-app purchasing, however, are failing to take off.

– European Union officials are once again asserting the importance of privacy in the online world. The Council of the EU voted to include an amendment to the EU privacy directive requiring notification to users before cookies are downloaded onto a computer.
