Quick hits: Not everybody is singing ‘recovery’

punch_small.jpgADOTAS – Maybe Google has recovered from the great ad recession and is a-hiring and acquiring, but other media and web companies don’t seem to be in the same jolly spirits. According to the Wall Street Journal, Time Warner will suffer up to $200 million in charges from its planned spinoff of AOL and layoffs may be as high as 1,000, one-sixth of the company’s workforce. While search ads have rebounded, display — AOL’s bread and butter — hasn’t snapped back yet. In addition, it’s been confirmed that Adobe is sacking 9% of its workforce — 680 pink slips are waiting to be delivered.

– Is being social and mobile the new walking and talking? Representing 43% of global mobile Internet users, eMarketer predicts the number of mobile users accessing social networks from mobile devices will hit 607.5 million worldwide by 2013. In the U.S. alone, that number will be 56.2 million, accounting for 45% of mobile Internet users.
