Google crowned mobile ad king with AdMob acquisition

google mobile_smallADOTAS – One day you’re announcing that the number of publishers on your mobile ad network has tripled in a year, the next day you’re acquired by Google.

In an all-stock deal valued at $750 million, Google has acquired AdMob, virtually crowning itself king of mobile advertising. AdMob’s 10.2 billion monthly ad requests will join Google’s already huge Adsense online assets and its new mobile ads platform. No surprise, this makes it the market leader in mobile ads by a mile.

“I’m excited because I believe this will be an important moment for everyone involved in producing, consuming, or monetizing engaging products on mobile,” adMob founder and CEO Omar Hamoui wrote on the company’s website. “The truth is that the mobile industry has had no shortage of creative energy, amazing products, and talented entrepreneurs. But until now, it has always felt like those of us involved in this space played second fiddle to our online brethren. I believe that time is over.”

Congratulations to Omar and the AdMob team. When Google knocks, people listen.
