Social media sites inspire loyalty

facebook_small.jpgADOTAS – While social media campaigns aren’t yet pouring in the referrals to company websites, they do seem to inspire loyalty according to research from Chitka.

In a study of 33 million unique users across the Chitika publisher network, the company examined the number of users coming from search engines versus social media and how many of those visitors made return appearances.

While 98% of visitors were led to the sites by search engines compared to just 0.55% from social media sites, 20% of guests from Facebook and 16% from Digg came back four or more times within a week, which Chitka surmised as loyalty.

As for search engines, 15% of Yahoo referrals returned four times or more, while 12% of Google referrals did the same.

Even though companies are all atwitter over the importance of Twitter, the site came in last in terms of loyalty, with only 11% of referrals returning four times or more. ADOTAS
