Quick hits: Facebook is hot, hot, hot
ADOTAS – What’s scorching on the digital front? Mediaweek thinks Facebook is so hot that it’s sizzling — the social media mecca pushed its way to the stop slot of the “Digital Hot List 2009″ after coming in second the year before. The magazine noted that the site has supplanted porn as the Internet’s no. 1 activity — you can hear jaws drop across the nation. Hulu moved up two spots to take the second slot and Twitter joined the list at no. 3. Though fourth hottest is nothing to snicker at, Google has cooled off after taking first place last year.
– In other Facebook news, what have thee Facebook gods done — again? Midway through Friday the site’s homepage suddenly delivered two options — a news feed and a live feed — after switching to a suspiciously Twitter-esque interface mere months ago. The live feed is now every update from every friend and fanpage a user may have, while the news feed is supposedly the most relevant posts according to the user’s network. This is judged by a “magic” algorithm that tracks likes and comments. Supposedly changes were made in accordance with feedback from users, but Just like the last makeover, backlash has run amok on the site — the “CHANGE FACEBOOK BACK TO NORMAL!!” group is a million users strong and growing.
– In love with German cars? There’s an app for that. To debut its latest GTI model, Volkswagen released a free video game for download on the iPhone. “Real Racing GTI” is a spinoff of the popular”Real Racing” game and is apparently the only type of marketing VW is doing for the limited-edition car. Reportedly the goal is to measure the effectiveness of app-marketing by itself. Six lucky iPhone players will also win a GTI.

Facebook isn’t hot. People are hot. That’s the only reason anyone goes there.
