Paid search surges in popularity with advertisers

search.jpgADOTAS – Paid search appears to be all the rage for the third quarter and into the near future, according to the latest 2009 Covario Global Search Spending Analysis report.

For the first time since fourth quarter 2008, spending on paid search increased by 7.8% and Covario predicts a 10% to 15% increase for 2010. The biggest gain was a 14% jump in the Americas region fueled by cyclical back-to-school campaigns, in particular ones aimed at high tech products.

Growth in paid search on Google was up 10.9%, pushing its market share from 81% to 83%, while Bing was up 9.2%.

Cost per click advertising dropped to a two-year low in third quarter as advertisers sought lower-priced options. So far this year CPCs are down almost 40% from the 2008 average.
