Netlog gets a hot makeover

netlog.jpgADOTAS – Look out, Facebook and MySpace — Netlog’s got a brand new bag.

Or rather a new site — TechCrunch has an exclusive look at the new homepage of “the European MySpace” and it’s sharp, a sleek black background with sexy modules all about. It’s quite an improvement on the site’s present dull appearance.

Netlog currently boasts 250 million visits from 56 million unique visitors on a monthly basis. In addition, half a million more users are signing up each week. The site is aimed at youth — 65% of its subscribers are between 14 and 24 years old.

No surprise then, gaming is the most popular activity on the site — 2 million game plays per day, according to a company release — and Netlog offers in spades, including computerized board games and new versions of arcade classics. In addition, the site has produced a branded social gaming distribution platform called Gatcha!, which will enable large massive multiplayer online gaming with global rankings and include third-party and branded games.

The goal of Gatcha is offer a platform on which developers can build games for multiple operating systems, including mobile ones. Deals have already been inked with game developers Playfish and Sakari.

This could be a fantastic new opening in social media for branded content — obviously Netlog is pushing for a bigger slice of the pie than just Europe. No world on an official rollout date, just a launch promise of before the end of the year. Tick tock.
