The simple things to increase website conversions

mouseclick1.jpgADOTAS — What does it take to improve website conversion rates? If you’re not already doing these, you might think about some tweaks.

According to Marketing Sherpa, the three top tactics: the perpetual shopping carts, from simple notes that there’s a product sitting in the cart, to dynamic overlays showing images of the product, price and estimated shipping costs; internal search, almost 50% of shoppers prefer internal search over traditional menu options and this number naturally rises when they have a specific product or brand in mind; and enhanced display, often consumers are just as enthusiastic about simply getting many, varied photos of a product.

This list comes from nearly 1,500 ecommerce marketers who participated in a Market Sherpa survey. The holiday season (yes, it’s coming) is expected to grow from the 2008, so you might as well work on that web site now.

Hi Ed

Thanks – this is a useful post. To flesh out the story a bit, take a look at the eTailing Group’s 2009 merchant survey. While they didn’t ask about perpetual shopping carts, they did ask what their membership planned to invest in to improve website conversion in 2009. The big surprise for me was that targeted email was rated the highest with 76% of their members planning more programs in this area. Improving search was second at 69% mirroring the Marketing Sherpa results.

I blogged about it here: http://websiteconversion.blogspot.com/2009/07/email-transforms-website-conversion.html
