I had to cancel my credit card and have them issue a new one. The scam artists work on the theory that they can collect a few monthly payments from subscribers before they figure out it is a scam. To get your money back is virtually impossible.

Exaggerated claims and tenuous celebrity “endorsements” have been part of advertising for as long as it has existed; fortunately, the Internet gives people the opportunity to immediately check into an ad’s claim. People need to evolve along with the technologies that are so integral to their lives.

Interesting sleight of hand. In the link, you point to the positive things Oprah says – give out an affiliate shout – then post the disclaimer that Oprah and OZ wrote.

Nice. Not sure it’s a wise decision to do a little affiliate marketing on this particular article, but whatever.

Most likely this will end up being a fruitless (ha!) case of wack-a-mole. The real “problem” is that there is a market for this stuff and it will never ever, ever go away.

As a BBB Lead Investigator for EWA, NID and the state of MT, I am really glad to finally see Oprah being pro-active by filing a complaint regarding the sales tactics of these groups that misuse her profile and influence on people.

We regularly warn people about questionable offers, and I was beginning to wonder why Oprah would actually endorse such suspect sales tactics.

Well, now I am more a fan of Oprah for stepping up to help advocate for accountability online between Internet businesses and their clients!

Hopefully Oprah and Dr. Oz will NOT go after the AdNets (most all of them ran some variation of these campaign) facilitating these ads running on pretty much every website on the interwebs January – March 2009.

As brand business fell off the cliff in Q1 09 many a Publisher, and AdNet job(s) were most likely saved by the Belly Fat ad.

I am glad Oprah is handling this so this kind of bad practice can be stopped. Someone in her stature will carry more weight than any John Doe there is. I will remember not to deal with those companies mentioned because customer satisfaction should be a guarantee in every transaction.
