Industry news on hirings, promotions and finance

ADOTAS — Travel Ad Network, Tremor Media, Undertone Network and Media Horizons all had announcements recently.

Tremor Media, an online video advertising network and provider of the market-leading Acudeo video monetization platform, announced that it has secured a strategic investment from SAP Ventures, a division of SAP AG. Six months ago, the company secured $18 million in a third round of funding. While the company did not disclose the terms of this recent funding, Paid Content pegs it at $2 million. The investment will enable the company to increase its video product development efforts to provide deeper technology solutions for both publishers and advertisers.

Travel Ad Network, a vertical ad network in travel, has announced that CEO and Founder Cree Lawson has become Chairman of the Board and that Brian Silver has been promoted from President and Chief Operating Officer to President and Chief Executive Officer.

Undertone Networks, an online advertising network, has hired Kelly Wenzel as the senior vice president of marketing. Most recently, Wenzel was chief marketing officer at Tideway Systems, a provider of infrastructure management solutions. Previously, Wenzel headed marketing at DataSynapse. In 2008, Wenzel was named Business Executive of the Year in a Computer Software and Services Company by the Stevie Awards for Women in Business. Prior to DataSynapse, she also held positions as vice president of marketing at Prescient Systems and Optum, Inc.

Direct marketing agency Media Horizons has named industry veteran Alan Zamchick as Vice President of its new List Management division. Since 1982, Zamchick directed the in-house list management department at Hachette Filipacchi Media.

• Right now, at the beginning of 2012, what are you watching the most closely for its ad and marketing opportunities?

  • Mobile. Smart devices have become standard, and advertising is only going to become more creative there.
  • Online video. It's a real competitor to TV now, and it presents really interesting ways to engage viewers.
  • Social media. The new Facebook timeline and the surge of Google+ have cracked the game wide open again.
  • Tempting as it might be, I don't want to get too involved in one aspect.
  • See, I think this might be a good time to see what would happen if we revisited MySpace, but made the ads slightly bigger... with more strobe effect.
