Bing, Google search killer wannabe
ADOTAS — The long awaited, much maligned challenger to Google search is now in live.
While it was supposed to debut June 3, Bing apparently went live yesterday. I had a quick, surprisingly enjoyable use of the search engine, which is supposed to yield fewer but more-focused results, especially with the video. Scrolling over the video results, prompts the videos to start playing in their windows.
People who are more into the details of search praised the new search. Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak said it “was the most astounding software demo I’ve every seen,” after seeing Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer unveiled Bing at the All Things Digital Conference. Search Engine Land says while it’s better than Live Search, it’s no Google killer.
We’ll see about that. Several issues still need to be played out, including whether, eventually, Bing is so much better than Google search that users will switch. If it’s equal, Google wins. Also, Bing so far appears to be better than Yahoo search. Will it make Yahoo more open to a search deal that everyone says will happen?
Reader Comments.
So far, very relevant sites that Google displays at the top of their results don’t even appear in Bing results, so I’m skeptical. Time will tell.
