Tumri, attracting talent and funding*
ADOTAS — *SIA says the new hire will be from AOL. Huge numbers get thrown at me so much, I’ve become immune.
Hits, page views, uniques, all are suspect, and most companies won’t reveal revenue as compared to cost numbers, so it becomes a guessing game. I try to look at other factors, including funding and who is joining a company. That’s why I was talking Calvin Lui, CEO and president of Tumri. The company is doing well in both, with more news coming.
Tumri works brands such as Lenovo, Intel, Sears and Best Buy, with performance-based advertising through its AdPod display ad platform, which has delivered, according to the company, 100-300 percent lifts in advertising performance. The technology enables clients to place the right ad, in front of the right person, at the right time – on the fly.
“People want to reach people not pages,” Lui says. “They want to find the right user intent, the person who wants to buy and the right audience to reach. The tough part of that is that is the science and investment.” Both of which Tumri has done and continues to do, he added.
Last year, Google’s former Product Management Director for AdSense, Gokul Rajaram took a position on the board, and this year, Jeff McCombs, former chief of staff to former Yahoo President Sue Decker, became the CFO. I asked Lui about the funding, which from last reports was $16.5 million. While he wouldn’t give me exact numbers, he said it was more around $20 million, some funding hadn’t been announced yet, and also said there was more news in the near future.
Lui wouldn’t say if it was a personnel announcement, more funding or both. “We are growing significantly and hiring, and we have another (announcement) coming up.” If it’s another big hire, it would just add more weight to Tumri’s future prospects.
