Deeper Twitter search

twitter_small.jpgADOTAS — While the spam tweets and dumb marketing DMs annoy me, the one feature I constantly use on the micro-blogging service is its search function, and I wish it was better.

Apparently Twitter plans to make that wish come true. According to CNET, Santosh Jayaram, vice president of operations, said that Twitter Search, which now only searches only Twitter posts texts, will eventually crawl the links included in tweets and begin to index the content of those pages. This will make it a real-time index of what’s happening and more interesting for someone like me who needs that information.

Twitter’s obvious, and greatest use, is its real time search. Others have likened it to YouTube’s biggest asset, which is its massive search engine. Can this new wrinkle make it a Google competitor? Maybe. But could this make it even more enticing to Google rivals.

  1. Twiiter search is indeed frustrating. I’d like to add something very simple to the list: finding profile names/specific people on Twitter! Sometimes even that is not straightforward.
