Affiliate Convention looms
ADOTAS — Just when you thought that your summer was looking a little slow and you needed a conference to attend to drum up some new business, WebmasterRadio.FM and AffSpot come to the rescue.
They have teamed up to invite you to the inaugural Affiliate Convention, taking place June 17-20, 2009. For those of you about to check your calendars, that’s Wednesday through Saturday.
Affiliate Convention believes it is fundamental that an affiliate should not pay to attend the event. The convention is free for all working affiliates with sessions planned to help grow affiliate business, offering the opportunity to learn from peers, find better commission deals, and explore new products to offer.
Along with two days of intensive content, Affiliate Convention features an exhibit hall, general sessions, targeted skill sessions, networking opportunities, and WebmasterRadio.FM’s “Affiliate Bash”.
“Why Denver?”, you ask? Personally, I think it’s a great choice – I don’t get to travel to Denver much anymore, and it’s a beautiful area with a nice climate that time of year – I’ll be glad to get out of South Florida in the middle of the summer. The owners of the convention saw that Denver was chosen with the affiliate in mind.
With Denver being a central hub for many airlines, airfares to Denver are very low. In addition, Denver has attractive hotel rates, with the convention’s hotel at $149/night. I think some of us have had to pay close to $500/night for rooms at a conference that takes place the same weekend as the New York Marathon.
Affiliate Convention kicks off with a charity golf tournament on Wednesday afternoon benefiting the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The tournament will take place at Castle Pines North and is limited to 18 teams of 4. Then later that night, Affiliate.com is hosting the official kick-off party for the convention, and is open to all attendees.
The convention proper begins on Thursday morning with Kris Jones from Pepperjam as the keynote speaker discussing the future of affiliate marketing. Sessions are split up into tracks such as “Super Affiliate Track”, “101 Session”, “Campaign Management”, and niche marketing tracks such as dating and travel. “Can’t miss” sessions include “Developing and Running PPC Campaigns”, “Alternative Search Engines and Marketing Venues for Affiliates”, “Landing Page Optimization”, and “Creating Higher Conversion Rates”.
Affiliate Convention is creating a lot of buzz around the industry with a host of sponsors getting involved such as ClickBooth, XY7.com, MarketHealth.com, FriendFinder, Vayan, UniqueLeads, RexDirect Net, and COPEAC. With a strong lineup of speakers and sessions, it is obvious that the convention is geared toward the affiliate, with affiliates making up a projected 60% of the attendance.
It also offers a nice location to visit during what promises to be a hot summer, so we’ll hopefully see you in Denver!

HUGE fan of this convention because, unlike Affiliate Summit, it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to attend. I don’t necessarily think the convention should be free (a small entrance fee keeps the “riff-raff” out), I staunchly object to $1200 tickets for Affiliate Summit “classes” that feature a non-affiliate like Gary Vaynerchuck. Gary’s shtick is great, but his qualifications are ridiculous. Ditto for Jason Calcanis. I hope that Affiliate Convention puts Affiliate Summit (and Missy Ward) out of business.
Hi Jason -
I just wanted to share some clarifications on your comment…
1. Affiliate Summit tickets start at $79
2. Gary Vaynerchuk is now an affiliate and he was when he delivered the keynote at Affiliate Summit West 2009 – he mentioned his affiliate site during the speech: http://pleasedress.me/
3. Jason Calacanis also tried out affiliate marketing with Mahalo
That said, the keynotes we have selected were there to speak on the big picture.
There are dozens of breakout sessions that cover the nuts and bolts.
Have a great day!
So, if it wasn’t for Affiliate Convention you would be charging $700+ for affiliates to go?
Because Affiliate Convention showed up on the scene you dropped your prices and now all of a sudden you are the good guys?
Rock on Affiliate Convention Denver! I look forward to seeing what these guys have in store.
Anonymous – the Affiliate Summit pricing went up in early January 2009, in advance of Affiliate Summit West 2009.
The first I heard of Affiliate Convention was a post on the Webmasterradio blog weeks later – http://www2.webmasterradio.fm/blog/webmasterradiofm-takes-ownership-position-in-affiliate-convention/
And their went up some weeks after that.
We are currently selling passes at our early bird rates (though June 12), as we have done for the previous 12 Affiliate Summits.
But I’ll give you an A for effort and for anonymous.
Actually, Anonymous, we posted our pricing in advance of Affiliate Summit West 2009 back in early January.
I didn’t hear of Affiliate Convention until a blog post from Webmasterradio at the end of January and the site was up some weeks after that.
But good try.
Sorry for the double post – first one hit an error page.
