Google opens the news spigot

googlesucks_small.jpgADOTAS — Whenever a company pushes out a lot of news around the same time, you wonder what they are trying to hide in plain sight.

Google announced a modest first quarter earning growth, albeit in better than predicted, revenue fell 3 percent compared to last quarter, but its paid click numbers were up. Aggregate paid clicks were up 3 percent quarter to quarter.

In the earnings call, CEO Eric Schmidt said a search deal with Twitter made sense: “it could be a channel for product information, marketing information, real-time information for which you can hang advertising products, whether it’s a text ad or a video ad or so forth off of it … It strikes me that’s a logical strategy for them to pursue and something that we would be very happy to pursue with them and all other players in that space.”

On the same day, the company announced a new feature for Google TV Ads Online, which lets advertisers place commercials into the ad breaks of TV programs watched online. The company also announced deals that brings some terrible television shows to YouTube.

And lastly, new was announced that Nikesh Arora is moving from his post as president of international operations to become president of global sales operations and business development. He replaces Omid Kordestani, who moves into an advisory position. (Whatever that means).

So what’s the news it wants to downplay?
