DataXu quietly gains funding

socialnetworking_revvs_small.jpgADOTAS — The startup online ad exchange raised $6 million in a first round of funding from Atlas Venture and Flybridge Capital Partners.

According to peHub, DataXU, which didn’t release any information on the filing, was founded in 2007 by MIT professor Ed Crawley.  DataXu’s website says:

“Our product will cause the next revolution in Internet advertising by disrupting how advertising is bought and sold on the Internet. Our proprietary technology is a high-performance real-time, automated, self-learning decision-support system that matches advertisers, publishers, and web users at a rate of hundreds of thousands of requests per second.”

In an area dominated by Right Media, you wonder what DataXu will bring that is different. But as more companies migrate online, ad exchanges are predicted to rise as well.
