Microsoft PubCenter vs Google AdSense

microsoft_small.jpgADOTAS — When Microsoft shut down its adCenter Analytics, there was speculation that its AdSense rival program, PubCenter, might also be in trouble. But apparently it’s not.

The self serve third party ad publishers platform is paying more than Google AdSense and Yahoo Publisher, according to a beta tester. All of these programs let third party publishers add contextual ads next to their content via a self-service format.

According to Techcrunch, when Microsoft officially unveils PubCenter (there is no official date that I can find), and if it is aggressive in revenue splits, it could become the long sought rival to Google. It started testing over the summer. One beta publisher says he is receiving four times more in revenue than Google AdSense, and the ads themselves are of higher quality than Google’s ads and are equally as targeted towards the content. Microsoft seems to be more stringent about letting advertisers into the program as well.

If Microsoft is offering a better program, publishers and advertisers might make the switch. Microsoft ads can be placed on the same pages as other contextual advertisements, so long as they do not have a specific exclusivity agreement with another ad network. You can limit the display of Microsoft ads to any subset of pages on your site and there is no minimum requirement for the number of ad units you implement.

The new platform will provide innovative forecasting and order management solutions, advanced analytics tools, and enhanced targeting functionality to enable all digital media publishers to have access to the tools and technology they need to provide valuable and relevant ad content to their advertising partners.

“…according to a [single] beta tester…”? They’re going to have to do a bit better than that…

RJ,
Heh. Wishful thinking perhaps. There are few, outside of Google, who hope that Microsoft doesn’t come up with some new wrinkle.
