Hulu, another (sigh) social net

online_video_small.jpgADOTAS — Another day, another social network. I just don’t have the energy. Seriously.

Today, Hulu launched Hulu Friends. The online video site wants to make watching videos more social by sharing users activities on Hulu with their friends. If a user has an Hulu account, they can connect to friends through Hulu Friends. It allows them to see what their friends are watching, share new videos, and even leave notes for one another.

Hulu has integrated with Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Hotmail, Facebook and MySpace to help find friends on Hulu. Users can also add friends from any Hulu profile page.

According to the WSJ, by underscoring that the site is about providing entertainment, and not replacing television, the new social-networking features also could help ease concerns about Hulu’s potential to undermine the business interests of TV networks and cable operators as well as boost ad revenue. It is also, according to Nielsen, the No. 2 video site in the US behind YouTube, and the biggests purveyor of professional video on the web.

Except, who has the time? I’m already on Twitter, Linkedin, Facebook, flicker, five email accounts and a personal blog (which I’m really not paying attention to, alas). I think there is overload when it comes to communicating with people. I like Hulu, but like Netflix’s favorites, I’m not that interested in sharing my plebian tastes.
