In another major hiring, AllthingsD reported that NBC Universal’s former chief digital officer George Kliavkoff, often billed as the main brain behind Hulu, has landed at Hearst. Yahoo News head Neeraj Khemlani came on board last month as VP and digital media special assistant to CEO Frank A. Bennack, Jr.
Kliavkoff will be developing and acquiring properties for Hearst, and that he has some M&A possibilities already in mind.
The company has said that it will close or sell the San Francisco Chronicle unless a last-ditch cost cutting effort works, though that appeared unlikely. Hearst, which is already trying to sell the Seattle Post- Intelligencer, said the Chronicle lost $50 million last year. It recently won concessions from the Chronicle’s union. It also has partnered with Helium, a citizen journalism community.
UPDATE: Hearst announced that it is taking the Seattle Post completely digital, and killing the print section tomorrow.
