Facebook tweaking design. Again.
ADOTAS — It’s not really a mea culpa, but it looks like Facebook has listened somewhat to the kvetching from its users.
According to a new blog post, Facebook said it’s tweaking the design again. The social network will add more control and relevance to the stream. This will include live updating, so a user can have a stream update automatically. Facebook will be adding the ability to turn on auto updating in the near future so you don’t have to refresh the page.
Facebook will also be adding photos tagged of your friends to the stream. This will happen in the coming weeks. It will also be giving you tools to control and reduce application content that your friends share into your stream. While the content filters on the left screen allow you to select the types of content you would like to see, it will eventually give you more control over what’s in your main stream and how you consume it.
They say that they intend to build filters that summarize this activity so you can see a more condensed view of what’s been going on. They’re also working on filtering out some of the wall posts and content directed to specific people to focus more on posts shared with everyone.
“Highlights will update more frequently and will show you more content throughout the day to mirror more closely the content that the earlier News Feed provided.” Uhm. ya’think?
Don’t know what the new tweaks will be look like, but at least it sounds like they’re working on meeting user expectations as well as looking for ad models. I guess we’ll see. They’re not going back to the old version, let’s just hope they keep the good and throw out the bad.
Michael Arrington says, dumb move, “Making users happy is a suckers game. Pushing the envelope is what makes you a winner.” Unless, of course, you’re wrong and your users leave.
