Microsoft (Hearts) Yahoo Now

yahoo_dark_small.jpgADOTAS — Sigh.

Steve Ballmer must have multiple personalities. First the Microsoft honcho wants Yahoo. Then he doesn’t. Then he says now is the time. (Speculation runs rampant at times too.) A genius or plain lucky, Ballmer will look like a champ if Microsoft gets Yahoo, which still has talent and really is the only chance anyone has against the Google machine, for a song as compared to what it was going to spend. (And Jerry? Well…)

Microsoft ditched takeover talks in May when Yahoo rejected its $33 per share offer as too low. (Meanwhile, the stock was trading at $13.33 as of 9:54 a.m. today). Ballmer has ruled out a complete acquisition, but he tells the Financial Times some type of deal could be made.

“We now have someone in place running our online business, and Yahoo’s out looking for a CEO,” he said. “If a search deal is to be made, it’s probably to be made in the interim period for new leaders in both places.”

I don’t anything will be done before Yahoo picks a new top executive, but as Blodget says, time is a-wasting.
